Idea credited to Magmafeather ------------------------------------------------ Mistheart's white fur didn't blend in very well with the surroundings, but it was fine. She padded along the river, looking at the fish as she waited for her apprentice to catch up. They could do things right, they would do things right too. Her apprentice had been shown the territory and now it was time for basic survival skills, hunting than fighting. Then there was watching out for predators or prey, and finally how to solve problems.

| Silkpaw happily padded into the clearing, her pale silver fur glistening in the afternoon sun. A small grin was on the apprentices face as she padded up to her mentor. Hopefully trainign would be as fun as it looked. Silk had struggled putting away childish remarks and games ever since she had been an apprentice. But she still thought about her days playing in the nursery, where she would pretend to be leader of Pupclan. Shaking her head with a chuckle, Silkpaw sat down in front of her mentor."Whats first?" Silkpaw asked casually, trying to hide her excitment. She was so happy to be an apprentice, hopefully Mistheart was happy to be a mentor. | |

| Mistheart smiled as Silkpaw arrived to the River. She looked into the river and spoke when she asked what was first. "Fishing! So the real secret to fishing, is to make sure your shadow doesn't reach the water until your paw goes to scoop out a fish, then you scoop it onto the land and when it is there, you take it out with your claws." She said, then turned the water to give an example. She watched carefully, her shadow not grazing over the water as a salmon passed by the river. With a quick and fluid motion her paw went into the water and the salmon was flicked out, flopping on the shore until she went and killed it with her claws. "You understand?" She asked, a smile laced her face. | |

| Silkpaw tried to lsiten to what Mistheart was saying but half of it went through one ear and out the other. Shaking her head trying to clear her thoughts she gave a nervous smile."Uh yeah. I get it." She said. I mean, its not a total lie. Silkapw thought to herself. Carefully Silk peered into the river and saw a fish swimming nearby the edge where the water almost met the land. It couldn't have been more of an easy catch! Atleast thats what Silkpaw had thought, it had looked simple enough when Mistheart did it. Quickly she tried to strike, but her claws only merley scrathed the fish as it swam away. Grunting in annoyancee, Silkpaw impatiently waited for another fish to appear. | |

| Mistheart smiled as she saw that Silkpaw seemed to understand. Though she wanted to test her skills. "Alright Silkpaw, why don't you try to catch one now?" She asked and told the apprentice. Her smile still on her face, her amber eyes gazing into water as she saw the several amounts of fish swimming across the water. She remembered fishing was always hard to grasp concept in her mind. | |

| "Alright here I go." Silkpaw said as she prepared to strike. She made sure her shadow wasntlooming over the river before she narrowed her eyes and watched the fish. Suddenly a fish swam near the edge. Grinning, Silkpaw grabbed it with her jaws and bit down until it stopped its thrashing. Silk dropped it on the ground and sighed. "Was that good" Silkpaw asked her mentor. | |

| Mistheart nodded, though Silkpaw hadn't used conventional methods to capture the fish, it was still good. "Yes, that was good, but next time, try to scoop it out of the water with you're paw before taking it out. Grabbing it with your jaws has a high risk of failure despite the fact that you caught it that time." She stated, a small smile to her as she stepped up to the water, a bit farther down from where Silkpaw was, to demonstrate again. Her shadow hidden on the calm earth rather than over the water. She narrowed her eyes as a trout started to swim by. She used her paw to knock it onto the ground and as it was flopping, she took it out with her claws. | |

| Silkpaw watched as Mistheart easily caught a trout. Nodding to her mentor, she saw a younger and smaller trout splash near the river's edge. Narrowing her eyes, Silkpaw tried to flop it onto land like Mistheart had, but ended up having to aim a blow at it twice before it landed on the ground. Silk then finished the fish off with her claws. "Was that better?" Silkpaw asked tilting her head slightly. | |

| Mistheart smiled and nodded. She was going to be a great fisher, Mistheart could already tell. "Yes, that was much better. Do you want to get more comfortable with fishing and keep catching, or do you want to move on to land prey?" She asked with the gentle coo she always had in her voice. She was hardly a fighter. | |

| "Yes, but first I want to catch a fish without havign to aim a second blow at it." Silkpaw said, determanation in her voice. Concentrating hard, she watched the river to see if any fish were swimming nearby. After she saw a gray body flash by, she struck it with her paw and pinned it to the ground with her claws as she finished it off with a snap of her jaws. The metallic taste in her mouth was new to her, but she didnt mind. Looking up at her mentor she seemed to be waiting for her mentor to comment on the catch. | |

| The energetic attitude that Silkpaw possessed was great, and so Mistheart could only nurture it to make it the efficient way for her to grow into a strong warrior. She was grinning as her apprentice did it right. "Well since we have all this fish here, we'll stay here while we practice land animals and when we're done we can take this back to camp and then go to the Burnt Sycamore for battle training." She suggested to her apprentice, who was probably getting sick of all the fishing she had done. | |

| Silkpaw nodded to her mentor in response when she said they would hunt land animals and battle train at the burnt sycamore later. "Alright. Im guessing I should scent the air then?" She said to Mistheart. Slowly and cautiously Silk scented the air. She could scent something that wasnt a fish, but the scent of the river and wood clung to it. Tilting her head, Silkpaw cautiously took another sniff. "I scent... a land animal. But its scent carries the smell of the river and... wood." Silkpaw said slightly confused. | |

| Mistheart thought about the scent, smelling the air again she knew what it was. "Thats a woodchuck." She told her apprentice. She crouched down. "When you stalk a woodchuck, it will hear you before it smells you so you have to keep your paws light, and slowly move forward. You also have to be down wind." She said, demonstrating with the form she had tried so long to prefect. It had taken her several moons. | |

| Silkpaw listened carefully to what her mentor was saying. Nodding to Mistheart after she finished explaining, Silkpaw tried to copy her mentors form. It wasn't perfect; but it wasn't terrible either. Carefully and quietly, Silkpaw crept forward, her paws were lightly touching the ground with each step. Her minty blue eyes watched the woodchuck carefully as she crept forward. One more step and she could leap right on to it. Suddenly the woodchuck glanced up, as if it had heard something. Panic set itno Silkpaw as she tried to stay perfectly still. She then realized there was a squirrel that was making the sound, not her. Silkpaw let out a tiny sigh of relief before lunging on to the wood chuck. Furious and surprised, it tried to fight back. Silk swiftly sunk her teeth into its skin. It thrashed wildly trying to run away. Silkpaw carried it to Mistheart when it suddenly layed still. My first land animal catch! Silkpaw thought happily as the pride shone in her minty colored eyes. | |

| Mistheart smiled, a nod of satisfaction when Silkpaw caught the animal despite the squirrel making a racket. When her apprentice laid it at her paws, she started with what she noticed first. "That was a good catch, but your stalking could use some work. Scent the air again and tell me what you smell." She said calmly, knowing there was squirrel in the air as well as vole. | |

| Silkpaw nodded when Mistheart told her to scent the air again. Sighing slightly, Silk sniffed the air again and could smell the faint scent of squirrel, woodchuck, and what she thought to be a bird. "I can scent the squirrels, another woodchuck, and I think a bird." Silkpaw said as she stood up, ready to hunt. | |

| Mistheart smiled at her apprentice's scenting skills. "The bird is a raven." She whispered, her eyes had a weird look to them. "Why don't you try to take down the raven!" She whispered again. | |
